Agility
of Lansing, Michigan
Capital City Canine Club is a AKC agility only club and a UKC agility and
obedience club located in Lansing, Michigan, USA. Co-founded in 1995 by Wynell
Brush, Pam Bunce, Maria Capra, Gwen Coon, Jill Martin, Linda Nichols, Pete
Ostland, Vicki Ringler, and Elaine Striler.
For those of you who don't know what agility is, here's a quick
explanation.
Agility is a fun sport. You compete against yourself and the clock. A obstacle course is set-up containing A-frames, teeter-totter, dog walk, tunnels, weave poles, bridges, jumps and several other obstacles. You are judged on how the dog performs each obstacle and of course you have to remember which obstacle comes next! Anyone can compete or just have fun practicing agility. All your dog needs is to be able to sit, stay, come and down. Competition is done off leash, but practice can be done on leash. It's a great confidence and motivational builder for your pet.

To join the club you must attend one club meeting or participate at a club function, (to let club members know who your are) fill out an application for membership and have two current members in good standing sign your application as your mentors. You need to attend the meeting that your application is read to the membership in case any member has a question to ask you, then the following meeting you are asked to not attend the meeting and the club will vote on your application. A letter informing you of the status of your application will be sent to you. Family dues are $20.00 a year. Children under 18 must have parent fill out application and parent in attendance at club functions. Family dues also include same household persons. Single dues are $15.00 a year.
All club meetings except October and January (call or e-mail for location of these two months meetings) are held at the MSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital in the basement, room A57 from 6pm until 8pm the second Monday of every month.
Agility classes start up in April and July for 8 weeks. To be placed on a mailing list e-mail or call Melanie Flesberg, flesber1@msu.edu 517-974-0060 and leave your name and address and state why you are calling and she will mail you the application and forms to fill out when they available. We will have applications on the website for 2007 classes.
Open floor time will be after classes. We will start at 7:45pm by putting out any equipment that isn't out from classes that people want to work on. You must be present by 8pm to have a say on when the equipment will picked up. Otherwise, equipment is left up until dark or when people who were there by 8pm are done practicing. Cost is $7 for non-members, and you must have experience on the equipment. The Training Committee can excuse anyone for unsafe use of equipment without a refund if they see fit. We do ask that you help with the equipment as well. This way we can keep the cost of floor time to a minimum.
